NCAA Basketball Tourney Has A Nation Glued

The NCAA Basketball Tournament is one of the most watched and awaited sports fixture in the US. It whips up a frenzy that is incredible. Almost the whole nation turns to basketball when the NCAA tournament starts.

The tourney is conducted by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), which lays down the rules for the 1,200-odd participating colleges and university members. Out of the 1,200 colleges and universities, 1,006 are active members and can participate in the NCAA tournament.

These colleges are organized into three divisions. Division I includes those colleges that sponsor at least seven sports each for men and women, or six for men and eight for women, with two team sports for each gender. Division II colleges are those that sponsor at least four sports each for men and women, with two team sports for each gender. Division III, which makes the bottom of the ladder, sponsors at least five sports each for men and women, with two team sports for each gender. The NCAA also lays down how many basketball matches each member is required to play in its Division.

The Division 1 tournament grabs the maximum public attention because the winners of this tournament qualify for what is known as March Madness. NCAA has laid elaborate rules for the selection of 64 women's teams and 65 men's teams that qualify for this grand event.

Thirty-one teams, both in men and women's division, get an automatic entry, because they are the winners of their respective conferences. A selection committee decides the remaining teams, 34 for men and 33 for women. The whole nation waits with bated breath to learn of the names of these teams that are announced on television.

The field of 64 teams is divided into four geographical regions, and seeded according to their performance in the elimination tournament. The team that is seeded one is the best is its group, while the team that is seeded 16 is considered the weakest in that group. Generally, the teams perform according to their seeding. But sometimes, a low-seeded team may create an upset. Such a team then gets to be known as the tourney Cinderella.

The tourney itself is played over a period of three weeks, beginning usually on the third Thursday of March. The first two days have packed schedules, and as many as 32 teams make an exit. The excitement continues over the next two days when the teams are reduced to Sweet 16. A four-day break ensues for the next round that leaves the top four or the Final Four to battle for the crown.

The winners of this grueling tourney are crowned college basketball champions, and become the toast of the nation.

An Infestation Of Head Lice

The head louse can only live in the human hair on the head. The head louse is a prolific reproducer. It is an infestation rate that moves very rapidly, in fact, so rapidly it can take out a whole family in a matter of days.

How does this infestation occur?

Head lice have no problem finding their way from child to child. This is so readily enabled because children offer such a smaller personal zone than adults. In other words, kids tend to get close and contact one another during moments of play. As a result, a child that is infested creates an easy path for the lice on their head to pass across. Subsequently as the children then return to the closeness of their family and as parents get close to hug or kiss the child, they become infested, and before long so to is the entire family.

The easiest (and most common) way for a head louse to move from person to person is from head to head contact or close contact. However, there is also the possibility of getting head lice from clothing and personal items like brushes. You can even get head lice from chairs and pillows where an infected individual has she hair. Although possible, these methods of initial infestation aren't as prevalent because without a human host the common head louse does not have long to live.

Are some people more prone to infestation?

Yes, statistically speaking girls generally get infested more so than boys. This may be due in part to the fact that females have longer hair than men in most cases, thus making it easier for hair to hair contact and for lice to gain a foothold and lay eggs.

What do head lice look like?

Well this depends on stage of development that the louse is in. There are three different stages of development for the louse. The first is the egg. The common head louse egg is about the size of a grain of sand. The eggs are actually laid quite close to the human scalp in order for the egg to survive.

The second stage is the nymph stage (new born louse). At this point the louse about half the size of a sesame seed, if not smaller.

The third and final stage in the development cycle of head louse is the adult. At this point it looks about an ant as it has a head, thorax and abdomen, the adult also has 6 legs.

What are the symptoms of infestation?

There are a few common symptoms that can give away the signs of head lice infestation.

Most commonly people feel a tickling sensation, or even the feeling that something is crawling on the head... which in fact, is actually quite accurate because the head lice are actually moving about in their hair.

Excessive chronic itching could be another symptom of head lice infestation all together. This can be a sign of an allergic reaction to head lice bites. That's right... head lice nymphs are parasitic and as such they feed on the blood in the skin so they bite the scalp in order to dine. A side affect of the itching and subsequent scratching can be sores actually developing on the head as a result of the itching/scratching cycle.

How can I get rid of an infestation?

There are many simple over the counter treatments available from a variety of places; these normally come in the form of shampoos or crèmes or even a fine louse comb to brush the lice out of the hair.

What flex shaft should i get for my driver?

Im 14 and i need a new driver. I hit my my old driver about 240-250 including bounce and roll. What flex shaft should i get on my new one?

Here's what I learned from my instructor and having checked this myself, I know it to be true. The "flex" marking on any manufacturer's graphite shafts mean nothing. There is a wide range of "actual" flex in each "category" (X, S, R, A) and no two shafts marked "S" will flex the same even in the exact same brand and model driver. Same with all flexes. What you need to do is demo a bunch of drivers (it doesn't matter what brand, or model) with a range of R and S flexes. Find one that works for you (gives you the feel, trajectory and ball flight) you like and ask the salesperson to test it for actual flex. That number will be in Cycles Per Minute, or CPM. Knowing what your ideal CPM number is, you can then pick the exact driver you want and have them find one that matches YOUR ideal CPM number + or - two to three CPM'S. THAT'S the "flex" you need. Not the designation on the shaft, but your ideal CPM number.

The Golf Driver - How to Hit it Long and Straight!

So often I have golfers come to me saying...

"I can hit my irons well but I greatly lack consistency with my driver. Can you give me some advice on what I need to do to hit my driver like my irons?"

If you resonate with that question then you'll want to read this entire article now. Because in it I'm going to give you some simple tips to improve your driving off the tee. And the first thing we're going to look at is your equipment. More specifically I want you to look at the shaft in your golf driver.

You see, the shaft of any club is the most important aspect of the club that will affect performance. And if you have a shaft in your golf driver that is not suited to you then you'll struggle to hit that club consistently well.

So when a golfer comes to me complaining about great inconsistency with their driver over their irons I routinely ask this question…

"Does your driver have a different shaft than your irons?"

And normally I get an answer back like this…

"Yes, but my irons have steel shafts in them and my golf driver has a graphite shaft in it. Although they are all regular shafts."

Now what most golfers don't understand is that because a shaft has regular on it does NOT mean it is the same flex as another brand of shaft that has regular on it. There are no standards as far as golf flex is concerned. So don't ever assume that having the same shaft flex from two different companies means you essentially have the same shaft.

So my first advice to people that can hit their irons well but not their driver is to get the exact same shaft as is in their irons put in their driver. And 9 times out of 10 just doing this solves there driving problem.

Now in case that doesn't solve your golf driver problem here are three more tips to help you to hit the ball better and further off the tee.

1. Before you take some full swings with a driver you should always warm up by doing some stretches. The golf swing is incredibly hard on the body and you'll only do yourself damage by trying to swing a driver hard without warming up your muscles first.

2. If you tend to fight a slice with a driver you should tee the ball higher as this helps to promote a draw. Conversely if your problem shot with a driver is a hook you should tee the ball lower.

3. When you're teeing up to hit a golf driver you need to take into account the shape of shot you've been hitting with the driver and then tee the ball up on the best side of the tee to allow for that shape.

For example, if you've been fading your driver (and other shots) and you're faced with a long par 4 that doglegs to the left then you're going to be in trouble if you leave your ball on the left of the fairway. So to give yourself the best chance of success you should tee the ball up on the side you most want to avoid. And in this case you don't want to go left as you'll be forced to hit a draw for your second shot and that's not a shot you're hitting well.

So with this in mind in this example you should tee the ball up on the left-hand side of the tee box so you're aiming away from the left-hand side, and you should aim down the middle of the fairway. That way if you hit the ball straight you'll be in the middle of the fairway. If you hit a fade you'll be in the right hand side of the fairway and if you hit a little slice you'll be in the right rough still with a good shot to the green.

You see, you've got to be smart when you're teeing up your ball. And here's a general rule to remember to help you do this…always tee up your ball as the same side as the trouble and aim away from it.
