American Pool Tables vs. English Billiards Tables

Buying a pool table for your home is a large investment that will cost several thousands of dollars for a quality product. During the decision making process, people often wonder if they should select from American pool tables or choose from the British style of tables, which most people know as billiard pool tables. The differences between the two styles of tables are not great, but before spending that kind of money, it is good to be clear about what distinguishes these two types of pool tables.

The main difference between American tables and the British version is their size and also of the pool balls that are used with them. Some might say that the English tables are actually a smaller cousin of the American tables. The English pool tables were first introduced to the British pubs a little more than forty years ago in the 1960’s. Because of the more compact spaces in most gamerooms and lounges in Europe as opposed to the available space in America, the tables needed to be a bit smaller in order to be able to fit them into the pubs of the day.

The most common standard American pool tables measure in at 9 feet wide by 4.5 feet long. The British tables run smaller with the regulation size being 7 feet long by 3.5 feet wide. There are also two other commonly seen sizes of the British pool billiard tables, which are 6 feet by 3 feet and 8 feet by 4 feet.

Because of the difference in size of the standard American pool tables versus the English tables, some of the pool table accessories are also accordingly sized differently as well. This is important because the amount of playing area is reduced considerably on the English tables which affects the play.

On American tables there is more room for the balls to spread out and this reduces the occurrence of balls “clumping” which can make it more difficult to get a nice clean shot at a pocket. At the same time, with a table that is two feet longer than its English counterpart, there are many more instances of long shots that need to be made. Such longer shots are particularly challenging for beginners and often a game can become very drawn out when players are chasing the last couple balls around the table.

To help ease the problem with space on the felt, the pool balls that are used with the English tables are smaller with a diameter of two inches. This compares to the balls used on American tables which are two-and-a-quarter inches in diameter. Of course, the pockets that are built into the American style tables are comparatively larger as well in order to accommodate the larger size of the pool balls.

Another difference that you will find between playing on American tables as opposed to English pool tables is in the pool cue sticks that are used. The English pool cues use a smaller cue tip which measures eight to nine mm across. The typical cue tips that American pool players are accustomed to using on their cue sticks are 12 to 13 mm.

When it comes right down to it, the biggest difference between American pool tables as compared to their English counterparts is their size. If you have adequate space, then most experienced pool players would suggest that you buy the larger American table. The general rule of thumb is that the bigger the table, the better the game.

Billiard Tables Offer Variety of Games

In one form or another, billiard tables have been a part of recreational pursuits for centuries. While often called pool tables in some areas of the world, they are a common sight in pubs, bars, taverns and game rooms. Billiard pool tables have also always had a place in private homes, but they are enjoying a surge in popularity these days. These specialty tables can be used to play a wide variety of different billiard-type games and are a great way to gather people around for camaraderie and friendly competition.

One common concern people have when thinking about buying a billiard table is if they have enough space to fit one into a spare room or a family room. While everyone’s idea of the perfect spot to play pool is different, in most cases you will want to have enough room for more than just the table. You must also have ample clearance around it to be able to wield your cue stick effectively. Billiards is a social game, and you should select a space in your home that can accommodate comfortable seating, as well as places to hold food and beverages that people often enjoy while shooting pool.

Most standard American billiard tables measure nine feet by four-and-a-half feet, with a slightly smaller version that is eight feet by four feet, and the most common length for the cue sticks is 57 inches long. To have enough clearance, so that walls and other obstacles won’t interfere with shots, the minimum room size needed would be 14 feet by 18 feet. This would be a “bare minimum” space and does not account for seating and mingling room.

If you just don’t have that much space, you could opt for one of the smaller sized tables. There are billiard pool tables as small as six feet by three feet. In conjunction with a smaller pool table, you could also use shorter cues which are available as short as 36 inches. The combination of these two factors would mean that you could conceivably play pool in a room as small as 9 by 12 feet.

However, there is a drawback to trying to squeeze smaller tables into a room that won’t hold a full size pool table. Once you get used to playing on smaller billiard pool tables and with shorter sticks, you will find it quite challenging to be able to play well on the more common size tables that you will find at bars, pool halls, and in most other homes. In addition, if part of your idea for buying a pool table is to entertain friends and have social gatherings with it as the central activity, then you will find that other people will have trouble adjusting to what many think of as mini pool tables.

Once you have determined the size of the table that will fit into your home, you next need to look at the quality of the materials before you make your decision. Most quality pool tables have a slab of slate underneath the felt. This provides a very stable, even, and good quality surface. The best tables actually have three slabs which can be adjusted independently to assure the ability to properly level the surface.

Since slate is such heavy material, a slate pool table bed can weigh up to 800 pounds. Because of this, the construction of the billiard tables frames must by very sturdy and of high quality to support that weight and assure that the table playing surface is always level. Look for metal-to-metal construction for the joints and solid cross members that are bolted securely.

Billy Blanks Boot Camp Elite Challenges Physical Limits

For almost a decade now, Billy Blanks has been known for the popular Tae Bo exercise videos which he introduced to the market through his fitness infomercial. In fact, the Tae Bo tide helped to make him into a fitness guru of world renowned proportions. Recently, he introduced a new set of fitness workouts that are set to push people to stretch their limits and shatter their mental limitations. The Billy Blanks Boot Camp Elite program consists of a set of three “missions” that are intended to move people through a Tae Bo advanced fitness program.

The Boot Camp Elite program begins with Mission One: Getting Started. This is a 43 minute workout in which Billy guides you through a preparation of mind, soul and body. He does this with a combination of coaching, encouragement and motivation in order to assist you in gaining mental and emotional control, which he insists will facilitate the physical goals that people are wanting to achieve.

Mission One also teaches you how to most effectively rid your body of unwanted fat by utilizing a variety of engaging and exhilarating cardiovascular movements, such as punches, kicks and twists. In addition, Billy introduces the use of resistance bands that will help to provide optimal shaping and toning during the workouts. These bands are included with the boot camp package and the handles of the bands also include a versatile one-pound weight which can be easily removed.

The second Mission of the Billy Blanks Boot Camp Elite program is named Maximum Power and it is designed to provide a power-boost to the individual to help them tap into their inner power. The goal is to propel the person to their next level of mental and physical fitness and help them soar as never before in their conditioning.

The Maximum Power portion of the Boot Camp Elite plan is encapsulated in a 53 minute Tae Bo advanced workout. It is designed to help a person attain their maximum power. This is done by means of various strengthening routines that once again employ the weighted resistance bands. It focuses on working the biceps, triceps, and the shoulders with body twists and punches interspersed into the workout to produce the best results. Additionally, the workout goes on to involve the lower body, with kicks and other lower body movements to assure that the entire body is being sculpted into a lean package.

The next part takes on the most stubborn of problems. Mission Three is called Rock Solid Abs and it promises to help transform the flabby spare tire into a sculpted set of trim and strong abdominal muscles. With these specialized Tae Bo exercises, Billy claims that the flat and toned tummy you have always wanted can become a reality.

Mission Three of the Boot Camp Elite is presented in an invigorating 28 minute Tae Bo video that is packed with a series of non-stop abdominal exercises that are designed to give you a midsection that is ripped and rock solid. Belly fat will melt away as your six-pack begins to take shape. Billy helps you accomplish this with a combination of floor exercises, standing cardiovascular ab moves and more movements assisted by the use of the resistance bands.

It can be said that the Billy Blanks Boot Camp Elite is much more than just another workout. It is truly an undertaking to transform your body from the inside out. The three missions that are part of this Tae Bo boot camp will give you the foundation to tone muscles like never before and lose weight fast. This is a challenging, but safe, set of exercise routines that promote hard physical work combined with mental toughness to deliver the desired results.

Billy Blanks Tae Bo Energizes and Motivates

Once the room is filled with eager students and the signal is given, the pounding music gets pumped up and the Billy Blanks Tae Bo class gets underway. Even though he’s a fitness expert who is known around the globe, Billy Blanks still loves to lead his live classes at this workout studio in Southern California. He brings passion and commitment to his instruction as he leads his class through challenging moves and toward improved strength and better fitness.

The Tae Bo workout sessions include a grueling series of punches, squats, kicks and other movements that are done to the rhythm of high-energy music. And, in these workouts, it is not just the music that is high-energy. Billy Blanks himself seems to have boundless energy as he leads people though the challenging workouts, demonstrating the moves with vigor and shouting out encouragement to the class.

There is no doubt that the Billy Blanks Tae Bo routines are not designed for the timid or weak, either in body or in spirit. But, even people who are not in great shape and who are overweight are able to follow the Tae Bo exercises to get themselves in shape. Billy takes special care during his instruction to show people how to modify the movements for beginners and he often cautions against trying to do too much, too soon.

The Tae Bo fitness routines have been called a combination of karate and kick boxing, set to upbeat music. Billy first started experimenting with combining movements from these different disciplines in the basement of his home almost two decades ago and eventually brought his innovative routines to California. With the strong interest in fitness in California, Billy found an instant audience of avid followers and soon was also teaching his approach to fitness to celebrities such as Lisa Rinna, Wayne Gretzky and Paula Abdul.

It wasn’t long before this sparked a new fitness craze and the Billy’s Tae Bo fitness infomercial was launched. This introduced the Tae Bo video workouts to a much wider audience and soon Billy Blanks became a household name. Even more importantly to Blanks, his Tae Bo exercise videos were soon changing peoples lives.

The fact that Billy’s Tae Bo workouts and videos ever came to fruition, borders on the miraculous. Billy started out in life in a situation that most people would consider a disadvantage. Born into a poor, black family, he was the fourth child of 15. He had hip problems, struggled to learn because of dyslexia, and was almost kicked out of the first martial arts class at the tender age of 11. Undaunted, Billy used a mirror to learn how to correct his motions for his impairment in order to do the required moves and before long he had won a number of karate titles.

Some people get the sense from the Tae Bo workouts that Billy himself is on a mission. And, they are not far from wrong on that count. Billy has been quoted as saying that he believes that Tae Bo is the only exercise workout that can give a person everything they want. In addition to the physical aspects of his workout, Billy also interjects comments and motivations that are meant to bring the mind and the spirit into the fitness quest.

Acknowledging the huge following of avid fans of the Billy Blanks Tae Bo programs, it is obvious that his energy and enthusiasm has touched people and has motivated and inspired them. Even after almost a decade on the market, the Tae Bo video sets continue to be listed among the best selling fitness videos of online retailers and whenever he releases new workout routines, they are also an instant hit. Just in time for holiday gift-giving, or recovering from holiday indulgence, Billy is releasing his newest routine called Ultimate Tae Bo, which is a 90 minute test of mental and physical endurance.

Mini Pool Tables Great Alternative For Small Spaces

Lots of families these days are looking for good activities to participate in and enjoy together. And, this is becoming more and more important to parents as they try to engage their children in things that will draw them away from the computer or video games, which tend to isolate them instead of helping them integrate with the family. Playing billiards together as a family can be one great way to accomplish this end. For families who don’t have the room, or the budget for a full size pool table, mini pool tables can be an excellent option.

Mini tables make good small gameroom accessories and also are popular for kids rooms, dorm rooms, and company break rooms. There are even models of these mini billiards tables that are high-end and which would fit right into the office of an executive who wants a bit of diversion during the day or a interesting conversational item.

There are many different styles of mini pool tables available from both general retailers and also specialty stores. There are many choices in quality, materials, and sizes that all affect the pricing. Most all of these mini tables feature a playing surface that is covered with the same felt used on standard-sized pool tables, giving them both the look and the feel of a real billiards table.

While the diameter of pool balls for standard size American pool tables is 2.25 inches, the balls for mini tables are 1.5 inches in diameter. The balls for the mini tables are numbered just like the standard billiards balls.

Just as the balls are smaller, the pool cues are also shorter in length. However, the length varies somewhat depending on the manufacturer. There are different standards of sizing set for the mini billiard tables and for the larger billiard pool tables. In general, the cues for these mini tables are between 36 and 42 inches long.

The two most common sizes of mini pool tables are 44 inches long by 29 inches wide and 36 inches long by 20 inches wide. Some models have short legs making the overall height about 8 inches and these models are intended to be used on a table top. There are also free-standing models that stand at waist height and which have legs that are either foldable or collapsible for easy storage in small spaces.

Even for those who have a full size pool table, mini tables can come in handy. Many times when the adults are involved in playing a competitive game of pool, the kids want to join in the fun. But, depending on the age, it can be very difficult for young children to see well enough to play and to handle the full size cue sticks. With a mini pool table nearby, the kids can practice their skills and look forward to the day when they too can play at the “big table.” And, mom and dad can also relax knowing that the kids won’t damage the expensive full size table.

Almost all mini pool tables are sold as part of a complete package that will provide all the pool table accessories that you will need to start enjoying miniature billiards with the family. The accessories that come with the tiny table include the cue sticks, usually two, the cue ball and the colored ball set, the triangle to rack up the balls, the chalk and the brush for cleaning the felt. Just add the players, adequate pool table lights, some good background music, some yummy snacks and you can kick off a new tradition for family game nights.

More people than ever are enjoying the sport and the skill of playing pool. And, more and more families are interested in getting billiard pool tables for their homes to provide a wonderful array of games that everyone in the family can enjoy. Unfortunately, there are many families who just cannot find the room for a full size pool table in their house, but fortunately for them, outdoor pool tables can fit the bill.

Outdoor tables are specially designed and manufactured to be able to stand up to and endure the challenges of the being outside in the environment and subject to the elements of nature. They are built to be tough and sturdy, to resist mildew, mold, and the various pests that might try to invade the structure or surface. Outdoor billiard tables are virtually impervious to humidity, rain, snow, sleet, sugary beverage spills and can even handle roughhousing.

There’s no use trying to play a game of pool on a pool table that has a less than perfect surface. Warping, marring, severe scratching and other damage to the surface has a huge impact on how the balls move and react during play, making it impossible to predict the behavior of their movement. For this reason, it is extremely important that outdoor pool tables have very good weather proofing protection.

While most billiards pool tables that are used inside have a slate surface that is covered with pool table felt, the outdoor tables can be made from a variety of different materials which are treated for outdoor use. Slate is a very dense and durable stone that is the preference of billiards players around the globe. When used as the surface of an outdoor pool table it is covered with a special sealant, such as epoxy, to provide weatherproofing and prevent damage to the surface.

Another common type of material used for the beds of outdoor tables is concrete. In these types of billiards pool tables, special fibers are also mixed in with the concrete to add strength and to help it weather better. Resin pool table beds are also used in the outdoor models. The resin surfaces are made of a high-density polymer that is one to two inches thick and which is extremely weather resistant.

The side rails of outdoor tables are most commonly made out of either a nylon or an acrylic fabric. These types of materials will not allow any liquids to get past the surface. With this material, the surface of the pool tables can be cleaned with soap and water, or with warm water that has a bit of chlorine added. Manufacturers expect that with proper care, the surface of the table will last five to ten years before it needs to be refurbished. The frames of most outdoor tables are made of aluminum, polyethylene or fiberglass and will last for decades.

To offer even more use for outdoor tables, some manufacturers make models with a top that easily converts to other uses. This allows you to get more use out of your investment by being able to play table tennis when you have had enough of billiards, or use it for other games or as a large craft or project table. Since outdoor billiards tables start at about a thousand dollars and go up from there, people appreciate the versatility that this provides.

Many people wonder if playing pool on outdoor pool tables is the same as playing on the more familiar indoor tables. Users report that there can be some small differences in how the balls move, spin and bounce off the bumpers because of the different surface materials used. However, most people say that playing on an outdoor pool table is almost exactly like playing in a stuffy, smoke-filled bar room, except for the smoke.

Pool Table Accessories Make Your Gameroom Complete

These days the game of billiards is becoming more and more of a family endeavor because games played are fun for of all ages. People are finding creative ways to work them into their homes and enjoying the fun and camaraderie that a friendly game of pool can promote. While people often take great care in choosing the right pool table, sometimes they overlook the pool table accessories that are essential.

Your accessories are important because they will help to ensure that you and your guests enjoy the best pool gaming experience possible and will also help to assure the good condition and long life of your table. Some of the most important billiard gameroom accessories you will need are the ball rack, pool cue rack, chalk for your pool cues, pool table lighting, a pool table cleaning brush and a pool table cover. Also, most people appreciate having some type of score-keeping accessory. A rule book nearby with different games to learn is also a valuable item to have on hand.

One of the most basic of all the pool table accessories is the chalk. Pool cue chalk prevents the tip of the cue stick from slipping right off the cue ball when it is struck. There is nothing more frustrating than having the perfect game-winning shot all lined up and then blowing the shot because you forgot to chalk up and the cue tip slid off center.

To keep such tragedies from happening, make sure that you always have plenty of chalk when you are taking inventory of your pool table supplies. Remember to use the chalk throughout the game. There is a reason why you seen the pros chalking up all the time. Some popular brands of cue chalk are Silver Cup Chalk and Master Chalk. Look for non-lead chalk since the chalk dust will linger in your home and the lead could end up becoming an unwanted health risk.

A pool table brush is also extremely important and must accompany any table. A brush will help to keep your pool table felt clean, well groomed and tight. In addition to helping to make sure that tiny particles of debris don’t interfere with the play, regular brushing will help extend the life of the pool table cloth and give it a beautiful finish.

Accessories also must include a good quality pool table cover. Pool table covers keep the surface of the table protected from spills and scratches when not in use. It also keeps dust from collecting on the felt which makes it easier to keep the pool table felt clean and in good condition for many years of enjoyable use. Even tiny pieces of debris on the surface of your pool table can result in an errant ball and a missed shot, so keeping the surface in pristine condition will help everyone enjoy the game.

It is important to have a safe and secure place to store the pool cue sticks so that they don’t become warped or otherwise damaged. A pool cue rack will protect and secure the sticks. Often pool table accessories will come in a matching set that will include the cue rack, triangular ball rack and storage rack for the balls.

Pool Table Lights Illuminate the Game, Add Style

When you are setting up your family room or gameroom for a pool table, one of the most crucial gameroom accessories that you’ll need to consider are the pool table lights. It is impossible to play a good game of pool in low light conditions and the placement of lights over and around the table can make a big difference in the play and in how much enjoyment people get from the game.

Table lights need to be hung directly over the pool table and it is important that the light is perfectly centered. Experienced pool players use the reflections of the pool table light off of the balls to help them to properly line up their shots. If the pool table lighting is not properly centered, then it can make it more difficult to find the angles and make the shots. For beginners, using the reflections can also be a very helpful guide as they learn the geometry and angles necessary to become a good player.

It is important to use pool table lights even with other ambient lighting in the gameroom in order to make sure that there is good and consistent visibility across the whole pool table. Also, if there are other bright lights in the room, then they should be turned off whenever possible. The reason for this is that the other lights often shine into the players’ eyes which is distracting and also causes more reflections on the balls, which can be confusing.

There is a wide variety of table lights to choose from that will fit into and enhance any decor. Of course, there are popular styles that are seen in the bars and pool halls that are emblazoned with logos of beer and soda companies. If you want your gameroom to have that pub-like feel, then that kind of lighting for your pool room is probably a good way to go.

For those who are wanting a more family-friendly or a more sophisticated look in their family room or their gameroom, then you will find a great selection of choices at any lighting specialty store. In fact, there are even stores that specialize exclusively in pool table lighting and lighted gameroom accessories. If you can’t find such a specialty store in your area, then there are many online retailers who boast of huge selections that will help you to find just the right pool table light to fit your budget and match your style.

The most traditional models of table lights are long fixtures that have three lights to help provide adequate illumination over the length of the table. However, there are also many quality options in pool table lighting that have two or even just one light. Tiffany-style stained glass lamp shades have been popular over pool tables in home and pubs for generations and come in just about every color combination and design pattern imaginable. Today, many people are opting for more clean and modern looks for their gameroom lighting and there are many choices for the urban and contemporary tastes as well.

When hanging the pool table light, it is important to hang it at just the right level. Pool table lights needs to be high enough from the pool table felt to cast light evenly over the entire table surface. At the same time, it must be low enough so that players are not bothered by the glare. The recommendation is to hang pool table lighting approximately 32″ above the surface of the pool table.

Pool Tables Bring People Together

We are in a time when an increasing number of people find that they spend a lot more time looking at screens of computers and televisions than they do looking into the faces of other human beings. Many parents are concerned about this trend and are looking for activities that can bring the family together for fun and interaction. As a result, pool tables have become more popular as additions to family rooms because they provide a fun activity that everyone in the family can enjoy.

Pool tables are a considerable investment and even some of the cheap pool tables will set you back thousands of dollars. A high-end pool table or an antique billiard table can easily cost over ten thousand dollars. But, for some people only the best will do and the reality is that a pool table is a status symbol for some, a design statement for many, and an expression of wealth and tradition for others. At the same time, for countless other people, the pool table is simply a way to enjoy a fun and engaging sport that can be shared for friendly competition.

The types of pool tables that are available run the gamut from the simple and purely recreational at the low end, to high-quality slate pool tables choices in the mid-range. At the high-end are the ornate billiard tables which are as much fine furniture as they are recreational equipment.

High-end tables can be customized to fit into any decor and they are usually the centerpiece of a billiard room. They usually have intricate carvings around the edges of the table, have massive carved legs, are made of the best quality woods and covered in the best pool table felt available. In many ways, this category of billiard pool table is considered an investment and because of their quality and durability they last through generations and can become family heirlooms.

Other tables that are designed strictly for recreational activities are quite simple in design and while sturdy to withstand the rigors of the game, they are not as substantial, nor as difficult to move, as the high-end tables. They are made of more basic materials, but they must have the proper support structure so that the surface of the table stays level at all times. There is nothing worse than trying to impress your friends with your pool cue skills and finding yourself at a table where the balls seem to have a mind of their own because the table is not level.

While billiards is becoming a more popular activity, the biggest obstacle to putting tables in more homes is the space that is required for them. The dimensions of a standard size pool table are four-and-a-half feet by nine feet and are commonly referred to as a “4×9.” Then you need adequate space all around the table, not only for walking, but also to be able to properly maneuver your pool cue to make the shot. Realistically, you should have a 3 foot buffer on all four sides of the table. In addition, you need room for seating, and people often enjoy being able to sit at a table or bar while visiting and waiting for their turn.

For people who don’t have the room for a full size pool table, but want to enjoy the benefits of pool playing for family fun, outdoor pool tables are a viable option for many. The billiard tables built for out-of-doors use are weatherproofed and they are intended to stand up to harsh outdoor conditions. While these pool tables are designed to be used outside, they must be protected so that the surface does not become damaged.

Snooker Tables Evolved from Billiards Tables

Snooker is a game that has been played since that end of the 19th century. Legend tells us that the game was named after British Army cadets who carried the nickname of “snookers.” They started making changes to a familiar billiards game called Black Pool and this developed into the game of snooker. The snooker tables of today are likewise a variation of the common British billiard tables and there is a variety of billiard games that can be played on these slate slabs.

The games that are played on the snooker tables of today, were derived from the billiard pool table games that originally were played on the English billiards pool tables. So, in order to clearly understand the development of the modern version of the snooker table, looking at the history of billiards tables is a good place to start.

The actual origination of billiards is rather vague and difficult to pin down. Dating back to the fourth century B.C., there is evidence of games that were played on the ground, which were similar to billiards and croquet. It seems that for convenience, such games were brought to a table-top level which also required a raised edge to keep the balls from falling to the ground. For centuries, as the tables evolved to use the materials common to today’s tables, variations were also incorporated to accommodate the size of a room. In the early 19th century, the 12′x6′ became the standard size by a consensus of manufacturers.

Over the years, the makers of billiard pool tables started to cover the surface with cloth to protect the playing bed and also to make the action of the balls behave in a more standard manner. The cushions and the pockets were added along the way and went though many different changes before a standard was set. Slate beds were introduced in the 1830’s and are still used in modern snooker tables.

Burroghs and Watts was a well-known manufacturer of high quality snooker tables, and in the early 1900’s they introduced the option of steel backing of the cushion rails. This innovation greatly improved the action and the speed of rebounding balls, and more importantly, provided a level of consistency in rebounding. The inconsistency of rebounding had previously frustrated billiards players of all types until this improvement was introduced. Any standard snooker table built today will feature this innovation.

In today’s snooker tables, the size of the pocket openings are made according to templates which are owned by the Governing Body of World Snooker. These templates are required to be used for any snooker table utilized in professional snooker tournaments. However, many casual players find the small size of the pocket openings frustrating, so tables built for home use or for snooker clubs will usually have pockets with wider openings.

Tae Bo 2 Promises to Help You Get Ripped

Billy Blanks quickly became one of the best known names in the fitness industry. He first burst onto the scene with his fitness infomercial and the introduction of his Tae Bo video set. With the original Tae Bo exercise videos being a best seller and with a huge following of devoted fans, it should not be a surprise that Billy has now come out with the Tae Bo 2 set of fitness videos.

The new Tae Bo II exercise videos are mainly designed for those who are already somewhat familiar with at least the basic techniques that make up the original Tae Bo workouts. One of the things that has made Tae Bo so popular for a number of years, and has even caused many to call it a revolution in fitness training, is that it brings together elements from different types of more traditional disciplines. As a world class martial arts champion many times over, Blanks drew upon movements from Tae Kwon Do, integrated kicks and punches from the sport of kick-boxing, then set everything to upbeat music which helps to rock a person right through their workout.

People have used some pretty powerful language in describing their experiences with Tae Bo workouts. Explosive, powerful, motivating, uplifting, inspiring and energizing are some of the words people have said. It is not surprising that people are now using the same terminology to sum up Billy’s Tae Bo 2 series.

In Billy’s latest entry into the fitness video market, Tae Bo II is set to be one of the hottest workouts and one of the most popular, biggest selling fitness videos series ever. With such a huge following that Tae Bo fitness routines already have, and with the eager anticipation that fans have for new routines, the Get Ripped Tae Bo workout videos have the potential to break all sales records.

The workouts that are featured in the new Tae Bo II Get Ripped set of videos are said to be the toughest and most challenging of any of Billy’s workouts. This Tae Bo advanced workout set contains more explosive, intense moves than ever before and it is accompanied by an all new sizzling, jamming soundtrack.

Regardless of whether you are a Tae Bo fitness aficionado or if you are one of the few people on the planet who are new to the world of Tae Bo routines, then this newest offering promises to continue to deliver amazing fitness results even from the very first time you go through the workout. Billy will energize and motivate you with his new fast-paced moves and cutting-edge, driving music that will push you toward peak performance. In addition, these new workouts will help to sculpt and tone your muscles and give you a gorgeous “Get Ripped” physique.

When Billy Blanks first introduced Tae Bo to the world in the middle of the 1990’s, he started a fitness storm that took on a life of its own. Now, more than ten years later, it seems that Tae Bo 2 will continue to fuel the fitness revolution that Billy started and it will continue to motivate and train people to reach new heights in their fitness levels.

Billy Blanks is a well-known fitness guru who has blended the physical arts of kick-boxing and Tae Kwon Do into a powerful aerobics routine set to high-spirited music. It is called Billy Blanks Tae Bo. Because of the unique movements, the rhythmic musical accompaniment and the motivational input from Billy as the instructor, Tae Bo cardio has become one of the most popular fitness movements to ever hit the market.

Tae Bo routines are recommended widely by fitness experts because of the unique ability that the Tae Bo workout has of keeping people excited and motivated to continue their fitness workouts. In addition, experts also recommend the Tae Bo fitness approach because it is an excellent way to burn calories, helping people work off the excess units at about double the rate of a typical aerobic routine.

Tae Bo cardio exercise workouts are both convenient and flexible for the student because there are a number of Tae Bo workout videos and DVDs on the market. Most Tae Bo fitness sets include at least four different routines. This helps people stay motivated and eliminates boredom since they can vary their exercise sessions by using different workouts.

Tae Bo fitness routines have a world-wide following of millions of avid fans. Some have gone so far as to say that Billy Blanks started a fitness revolution when he brought Tae Bo workouts to the masses though his fitness infomercial. Billy Blanks somehow manages to also effortlessly incorporate components of mental and spiritual training right alongside of the physical training he imparts. Many Tae Bo fans have commented that one of the reasons they enjoyed success with Tae Bo was because, for the first time, they believed they could achieve new levels of physical improvement. Across the board, people credit Billy’s upbeat attitude with inspiring them in this way.

With his background as a World Martial Arts Champion, not just once, but as a seven-time champ, Billy has the know-how to create an effective workout routine that also motivates people to stretch to new fitness heights.
Tae Bo cardio routines help you to focus on how the body functions on an aerobic level and reveals the secret that many fitness experts have long ignored: that the mind and spirit controls the body and not the other way around. Armed with this understanding and combined with effective, fun and motivating movements, Billy Blanks has shown people a new way to approach fitness that is working for millions of people.

Tae Bo Classes Make Fitness Fun

Billy Blanks is the world-class championship athlete who is behind the high-energy, no excuses Tae Bo workouts that the world has come to know through his Tae Bo classes that he teaches. Billy drew upon his expertise in the world of martial arts and combined movements from that discipline with kicks and punches from kickboxing, then set the routines to dance music. The result was a fun and challenging set of workout routines that became a global fitness craze.

Billy started teaching live classes not long after he discovered how to put kick boxing punches and kicks and Tae Kwon Do movements to upbeat dance music. Even though Billy originally set out to refine his own workouts to make them more interesting, fun, and motivating, it was not long before this world-class athlete knew he needed to share this new Tae Bo cardio workout with others.

When Billy started to put together the moves and grooves that would become the basis of the Tae Bo classes and Tae Bo videos, he was already an accomplished world-class athlete. He had won the World Karate Championship not once, but seven times. He had already earned his black belt, seventh-degree, in Tae Kwon Do, and had black belts in five other martial arts disciplines. In 1982 he was inducted into the Karate Hall of Fame, after serving as captain of the US Olympic Karate team in the 1980 Olympics. In addition, while he was the captain of the US Karate team, they came away with 36 gold medals from international competitions.

Perhaps the Billy Blanks Tae Bo classes would never have even come about if it weren’t for the fact that, as an eleven year old boy, he was enrolled in his very first martial arts class. He almost dropped out of the class, not because of misbehavior, but because a hip problem impaired his ability to do the required movements. But with time and effort and the patience of his instructors, he soon discovered that the activity actually helped to correct the hip and joint anomaly that vexed him.

Over the years since Billy first brought his classes to the public, he has gained a large following of fans who have put the Tae Bo fitness routines to work for them. One of the things that continues to draw new fans, and keep his current fans following him, is the dedication and drive that is so evident in everything he does, especially in the Tae Bo workouts that he teaches, both in live classes and through videos.

While watching Billy Blanks lead one of his classes, it is clear that this man brings his heart and soul to the instruction. Billy leads the classes not only through his high energy demonstrations, but also with a contagious enthusiasm and with an attitude that can’t help but motivate and inspire his students.

Billy has said that it is the combination of the martial arts moves put to upbeat, energetic music that helps keep people moving throughout the vigorous workouts and helps to keep them motivated. Billy’s Tae Bo classes have propelled countless people to new levels of fitness while having a fun and positive experience. According to Billy, that is an important element of getting fit. He insists, “You have to have fun.”

Tae Bo Videos Offer Unique Workout Routines

In the middle of the 1990’s, Billy Blanks enthralled the fitness world with a very fresh approach to aerobic workouts in a set of energetic Tae Bo videos. The first time the world at large was introduced to the Tae Bo workouts was through an infomercial which featured Billy showing off his routines that combined karate, kick-boxing and dance. The fitness infomercial was very effective and before long people around the globe were becoming addicted to the Tae Bo way of working out.

But, the videos were not the first time that the Tae Bo workout had been experienced by people. Before the videos were produced, Billy Blanks had been teaching people in his Los Angeles area fitness studio for a number of years. His Tae Bo workouts were so effective that he gained a great deal of attention from celebrities and athletes, two groups that are always looking for faster and better ways of increasing their fitness levels.

Tae Bo videos feature the routines that Billy Blanks first began developing in the basement of his home almost 30 years ago. As a World Champion in Martial Arts seven times, and as a Golden Gloves champion, Billy was not planning to rock the world with a new fitness craze. His intention was simply to create a routine that would help to keep him in shape and motivated.

One of the aspects about the videos that is sometimes overlooked is that they focus on incorporating a person’s internal energy and mental focus as part of the workout. This brought a different element into the Tae Bo exercise routines. Most people were not used to this concept, but many reported it to be one of the best parts of the fitness approach that Billy Blanks created.

Perhaps one reason for the inclusion of the mental, spiritual, and energy aspects is because so much of the movement is based on martial arts. Certainly the ancient Eastern arts of Karate and Tae Kwon Do, which Billy Blanks draws upon, also have a focus on a person’s hidden energies. What has not been acknowledge much in the Western world is how these unseen aspects effects fitness. Combining the mental and spiritual with the physical pursuit seems to have resonated with those who are fans of Billy Blanks and his Tae Bo workouts.

In addition, the videos feature Billy Blanks as the instructor and motivator, guiding and leading people through the movements in the routines. And, Billy comes across as a motivational speaker and inspirational coach, as much as he does instructor, helping to continue the blending of mind and body in his workouts.

It is generally agreed that the workouts as shown in Tae Bo videos are for people with at least an intermediate fitness level. The overall routines are quite strenuous and are meant to push limits. However, Billy is also careful to warn against doing more than you are able to do and demonstrates how to modify the movements for those who are beginners or who have injuries.

Tae Bo Workout Combines Martial Arts with Dance Beats

Turning the clock back to the mid seventies, karate champion Billy Blanks stumbled upon a powerful combination of martial arts and kick boxing moves that he started to put together with dance music. With seven world karate championships already under his belt, this Golden Gloves champ was simply trying to find a way to make his fitness training more enjoyable and effective. When the elements of his favorite moves were energized by the upbeat music, he realized he had discovered a powerful formula which later became the foundation of the Tae Bo workout.

Billy Blanks also coined the term TaeBo which is an acronym for Total Awareness Excellent Body Obedience. With it being set to high-energy music, the workout is considered to be a high impact aerobic fitness routine. However, during the Tae Bo video, Blanks also demonstrates how people at lower fitness levels can modify the movements to fit their abilities. Because of this, it is an exercise approach that people of many different fitness levels are able to use and which can serve people as they go from beginner to intermediate to advanced physical conditioning.

In the various Tae Bo DVDs and video routines that are available, the student learns a variety of movements that come from different disciplines. Through a Tae Bo workout, people will be challenged with doing movements that might be found in martial arts, boxing and dance classes. In addition, Billy brings an intense level of enthusiasm and he encourages his students throughout the vigorous routines.

A typical workout starts out with a brief period of warm up movements and then it quickly moves into the main part of the routine. The class proceeds into a series of punches, jabs, steps, and kicks which have been choreographed with the music to lead the participant through a series of combinations set to an eight-count. While the routine borrows from some types of self defense classes, it is not in any way considered to be a self-protection course and should not be practiced for that purpose.

A Tae Bo workout is an excellent way to get an effective cardiovascular training session. In addition, Tae Bo exercise sessions can help improve balance, enhance coordination, and increase flexibility at the same time. It is also very effective at toning and defining muscles, especially the large muscle groups in the thighs and buttocks. With careful attention to proper form, Tae Bo workouts can also be very efficacious in strengthening and sculpting the abdominal muscles.

Many people report that they consider their Tae Bo routine to be responsible for more success with weight loss than they have even experienced with any other type of fitness routine. During a Tae Bo exercise session, people are able to burn between 500 and 800 calories in one hour. This is almost double the calorie burning of a typical aerobics class that will burn 300 to 400 calories during a hour-long workout.

When first beginning with Tae Bo workout exercises, they should be done at a comfortable rate for the student. One of the most common mistakes people make with any workout is that they try to do too much, too fast. This can lead to excessive stress on tissues and joints which can cause soreness and injury. While it is easy to get caught up in the routine because of the music and the exuberance that Billy Blanks displays, it is best to start slowly.

Ultimate TaeBo Challenge

It used to be that on Sunday afternoons in the Los Angeles area, fans of Billy Blanks and his workout routines had a chance to gather for a special type of workout. Billy called this event Ultimate TaeBo and it was designed as a way to help people find out just how far they could push themselves, while he challenged and motivated them to push just a little farther. Billy used his energetic style and his motivational prowess to help people break both mental and physical fitness barriers.

For years, only people who could attend this live weekly class were able to experience the extra motivation and the stretching of their limits that Ultimate TaeBo offered. But, as word grew about this special fitness class, Billy Blanks, the innovator who introduced this fitness craze to the market, recorded the event and it is about to be released on DVD, just in time for the holiday gift giving season.

While this is not a workout program that you would want to give to a beginner, if you have someone on your gift list who is a fan of Billy Blanks videos, then Ulitimate TaeBo might be the perfect gift to kick off their new year fitness goals. Or, if you have hit a plateau and need new challenges, then this DVD might be the thing you need to kick yourself up to a new level of fitness.

Billy Blanks is world renowned as a great fitness coach and motivator, and for his fitness infomercial. His workout routines in the TaeBo series of workout videos have encouraged and pushed people to accomplish things they never thought they could do. Billy brings all of his enthusiasm and high energy to this new Ultimate workout, reminding people to dig deeper and push farther, and break down the mental barriers to fitness achievement.

In Billy’s new Ultimate TaeBo DVD, he continues to keep people moving with upbeat music that is both funky and easy to workout to, as it keeps the body moving. The music that he has chosen also helps to bring dance rhythms and movements to the workout, which keeps it engaging and interesting, all the while making the movement feel natural. Unlike many advanced fitness workout videos on the market, this one does not use amplifier bars, exercise bands or any other extraneous equipment. It is all about you, your body and your mind being led by a master fitness motivator and being moved by the music.

People should be aware that the most daunting aspect of the Ultimate TaeBo DVD is the length of the workout. For those who are used to Billy’s other workout videos and the Blanks fitnesstools, they are used to workouts that last anywhere from 25 minutes to a full hour. But this routine pushes on for a full 90 minutes and Billy tells his fitness audience to pull in their faith and push out their fear to make it though the entire workout.

While a 90 minute workout under the Billy Blanks legendary energy might seem like too much to even attempt, reviewers are saying it can be done. What keeps the Ultimate TaeBo DVD from being overwhelming is the way that it is paced. People are not working full-out during the entire session. Even though Billy has you kicking, punching and moving throughout, he is pacing you both physically and mentally for the long haul.

People who have been through the Ultimate TaeBo workout report that they often feel a sense of euphoria that sometimes lasts for days. With it, they also get a boost in confidence that translates into other parts of their lives and helps them to achieve success in other areas as well. It should be noted that this Ultimate fitness routine is not intended to be used for daily workout sessions, but should be used weekly or monthly to test fitness progress.

Used Coin Operated Pool Tables Can Be Good Value

It is pretty difficult to wander through a smoke-filled tavern without bumping into coin operated pool tables. These tables are the tanks of the billiards world. They are built to hold up to the rough life in the back rooms and are not embellished with the kind of design touches that one would find in a billiard pool table that is the centerpiece of a gameroom in an upscale home. The coin operated tables are built for function and durability.

When the family room becomes overrun with teenagers jockeying for their turn to shoot a game of pool, many parents might be tempted to trade it in for a coin operated pool table. This would either help to scatter the crowd and make it more controllable, or would help to build up the college funds for their kids.

Coin operated pool tables are intended to be sold to businesses that have a recreational aspect to them, such as pool halls, bars, pubs and other such facilities. Many states regulate the sale of this type of billiard pool table through licensing and the distributors cannot sell them to people for home use.

However, if you think that a coin operated pool table might make a good addition to the rec room, then there are usually many available in the second-hand market. Because these tables are so sturdy and built to withstand heavy use in public places, they are quite durable and last for decades. Buying a used pool table, either a coin operated or standard, can save you thousands of dollars and you can still expect to get many good years of use.

The various coin operated tables that are available on the second-hand market come equipped with either an electronic coin mechanism or a multi-coin mechanical mechanism. If you don’t have electricity wired to the center of your room, or don’t want a heavy duty extension cord running across the floor, then the mechanical type of mechanism might be best.

Coin operated tables handle the cue ball differently than the other pool balls. In many coin operated billiard tables there is a magnetic mechanism built into the table and requires the use of a cue ball that has a special magnetic core. When a ball with the magnetic core tumbles into a pocket, the magnetic detector separates it from the colored and numbered pool balls and delivers it to a separate opening. This allows for the play to continue, which would be impossible if the cue ball were held with the other balls that have already been sunk.

The other way that coin operated tables handle the cue ball is by using an oversized cue ball. The difference in size allows the cue to be separated from the other balls and is routed though a different series of chutes to deliver it back to the player.

Used coin operated tables are generally sold separately from all of the pool table accessories needed to play. Some of the pool gameroom accessories that will be needed are the cue ball and numbered balls, the pool cues or “sticks,” the triangle ball rack, chalk and chalk holders, and the pool table cover.

Most companies that handle used coin operated pool tables will check them for operational problems and refurbish them as needed. They also should have a delivery service available so that experienced people will be setting up the table properly. Once the table is set up and the pool table accessories are unpacked you will be ready to enjoy many hours of play.

Facts About Soccer Balls

Soccer balls are used in the sport of football, also knows as soccer. The rules of the game specify that socccer balls be filled with air. Soccer balls are supposed to have a circumference of 68-70 centimeters and a weight of 14-16 ounces. The pressure of soccer balls is supposed to stay between 8.5 and 15.6 pounds per square inch.

Soccer balls are required to be covered in leather or other suitable material. The weight of soccer balls is measured by dry weight. The standard size for soccer balls is Size 5. Sizes smaller than 5 exist for underage games and as novelty items.

Most modern soccer balls are stitched from 32 panels of waterproof leather or plastic. The panels are twelve regular pentagons and twenty regular hexagons. This thirty two panel configuration is similar to the truncated icosahedron. The difference is that soccer balls are more spherical.

The first of the thirty two panel soccer balls was first made and marketed in the 1950?s but was not hugely popular until after the 1970 World Cup. Thirty two panel soccer balls were popularized by Adidas with their Adidas Telstar soccer balls because they were the official balls of the 1970 World Cup.

The soccer balls made by Adidas for the 2006 World Cup were fourteen panels and were a truncated octahedrons. The Adidas soccer balls for the 2006 World Cup were not made in Pakistan like eighty percent of all soccer balls are. They were made in Thailand.

Child labor has historically been used in the making of soccer balls in Pakistan. This practice has lessened since mass protesting of the practice in 1996 during the European championship.

The protests were effective in that they eventually led to the Atlanta Agreement. The Atlanta Agreement forces manufacturers of soccer balls to make sure that no child labor is involved in the fabrication of their products.

From Basic To Advanced, Taekwondo Is All About The Kicks

Taekwondo is famous for its kicks. Unlike other martial arts that center their moves more on hand movements, Taekwondo puts more emphasis on the feet and legs. Taekwondo kicks range from the basic front kick to the more elaborate and difficult spinning axe kick.

When learning the different Taekwondo kicks, you will spend time learning them in both Poomse and Sparring. Poomse is where you practice your moves in a pattern almost like a choreographed dance. It is very structured and must be done with precise accuracy. When performing your kicks in Poomse, you must maintain balance, use proper form, exercise control and deliver power. All these aspects must me taken into consideration when performing the kicks. This takes many hours of practice to achieve the best result. When performing your kicks while sparring, you will still be expected to execute with precision and accuracy but they tend to be more exciting and fun to watch.

Some of the basic kicks you will learn in Taekwondo are the front kick, back kick and side kick. These are pretty self explanatory in that you do basically what the name implies.

Some more advanced kicks found in Taekwondo are:

Axe Kick
In this kick the person raises their knee, extends their leg and then pulls down with their heel pointed down.

Hook Kick
Here you raise your knee as you would in a side kick, then extend your foot in an arc with your heel striking the victim.

Roundhouse Kick
For this kick you would start by raising your knee then turning while pulling your toes back and then extending the kick horizontally across the target at about a forty five degree angle.

Crescent Kick
This Kick can be performed as either an outer or inner crescent. To do the outer, you raise your leg as high as you can, keeping it across your body a bit, you then sweep to the side in a circular movement.

There are also some more advanced spinning and jumping kicks that can be learned as you move forward in your training. These include the flying side kick, the spinning hook kick, the jump roundhouse and more. While these are more difficult to master, they are also very impressive to watch!

History of Polo

This is a relatively new sport, it has only been around for 160 years, but supposedly back in the XVI century in India a very similar sport was already being played. The origins of polo can be searched for in the Indian state of Manipur, between 300 A.C, when it was known by Sagol Kangjei. Some also claim to that its origins are Persian, and that it was called Pulu, between 525 A.C. Throughout the years it expanded to countries like Tibet, China, India and Japan, where a special form of polo took place; it was called dakyu in the VIII century. It then became very popular in India in the XVI century.

The modern story of Polo seems to begin during the decade of 1850, when some British officials destined to India learned to play it there. The first polo club of the modern age was called the Cachar Club, founded in Assam in 1859. It was first played in England in the year 1869, by officials of the cavalry of the Tenth Hussars. In the United States it was first played in the year of 1876.

Until 1880, Polo was played under a roof, from then on it was also played outside as well, this last one becoming the most common method. Every decision there is about Polo is managed by the Hurlingham Polo Association, which has governed this sport since the first day and until today, it has its main offices in London, England. Their first match was played in 1874 and they wrote a book of rules, made especially for England, in 1875.

Polo was included in the Olympic games of 1900, 1908, 1920, 1924 and 1936. In 1989 the first world championship took place. The Champion Cup was the first British tournament, which was played from 1876 to 1939. In 1956 British Open Championship, replaced the Champion Cup, and it is played every year to get the Cowdray Park Gold Cup, at Cowdray Park, Midhurst, Sussex. The first International match between England and the United States took place in Newport, Rhode Island, in 1886. The most prestigious trophy there is; is probably the American Cup between the United States and Argentina, which was first celebrated in 1928 and it has been won by Argentina most of the times.

Improve Strength, Fitness and Agility With Taekwondo Training

Taekwondo training is a great way to get in shape and stay in shape. If you are looking for a fun way to shed a few pounds or perhaps you are tired of the same old routine, Taekwondo may be something to look into. It can be more fun than some of the other martial arts out there like Karate or Aikido as it centers more around stylish and fast spinning and jumping kicks.

Finding a place to train is as simple as pulling out the yellow pages or surfing the net. Just about every major city will have at least one Taekwondo training center. When looking for a training center, make sure to call and get prices from a few different places. It might also be a good idea to visit the center during classes to see how the training sessions look. You can get a real sense of whether the instructor is someone you would work well with if you see them in action first.

If you are thinking about Taekwondo training for your child, it is a good idea to make sure that the center offers classes specifically designed for children. Signing your child up for any martial arts is a great way to boost their confidence and teach them self discipline.

Another benefit children may receive from Taekwondo or any martial arts training is the ability to resolve conflict without resorting to violence. Many times the added confidence of knowing they can defend themselves in a fight enables children to find a non-violent solution to a conflict at school.

Martial arts training is more than just the physical part. Many people falsely attribute fighting and violence to martial arts like Taekwondo. This is not helped by all the movies we’ve seen that glorifies the actual ability to fight well. Real martial arts training teaches you just as much mental techniques along with the physical. Most are geared at avoiding physical confrontation at all costs.

The best result of learning to defend yourself is to never actually have to use what you have learned!

Indoor Soccer A Bunched Up Version Of Real Soccer

Indoor soccer is a game derived from association football, soccer adapted for play in an indoor arena such as a turf covered hockey arena or skating rink. Indoor soccer is a somewhat common sport in the United States, with both amateur and professional leagues dedicated to it. It is also played outside of the U.S. However, most indoor play outside of North America involves the FIFA-sanctioned game of futsal. Recently indoor soccer has become a popular sport in Mexico, being included as part of the Universiada (University National Games) and the CONADEIP (Private School Tournament), which match University school teams from all over Mexico. In Mexico, indoor soccer fields are commonly built outdoors, and the sport is known as fast soccer.

Rules vary between governing bodies, but some of the nearly universal rule deviations from association football include:
?	The arena. Most indoor soccer arenas are rectangular or oblong in shape, with turf floors. In many collegiate intramural leagues, the game may be played on basketball courts, in which case the floor is hardwood. Walls at least six feet tall bound the arena. Ceiling heights vary. Arena sizes are generally smaller than soccer fields, and the goals are recessed into the walls. Goals are also smaller than in standard soccer and generally the penalty area is smaller.
?	The team. Virtually all indoor soccer games are played with six active players per team, one of which is the goalkeeper. Substitute players are permitted.
?	Play off of walls. The ball may be struck in such a way that it contacts one or more walls without penalty or stoppage. If the ball flies over the walls or contacts the ceiling, play is stopped and the team opposing the one that most recently touched the ball is awarded a free kick at the location where the ball left the arena or made contact with the ceiling. In some areas of North America, these walls are being removed due to their hazardous nature.
?	Relaxed contact rules. Standard contact rules generally apply. However, there is a culture surrounding indoor soccer that sees it as a tougher version of the sport, and many referees take a relaxed attitude toward fouls related to contact. Many leagues ban the use of the sliding tackle, though such techniques are less useful on turf or wood than they are on a slick field.
?	No offside. Most leagues play without an offside rule.

Beyond these common threads, the sport is structured according to the idiosyncrasies of individual leagues. Most of these rules are adopted from other arena sports like ice hockey.

Olympic Swimming

Swimming has long been a favorite of the summer Olympic games. There are great stories about the swimmers and their hard bodies gliding through the water is tough not to watch. The Olympic swimmers train for years to get to the Olympic games and there is no doubt that they are all very tough competitors and tremendous athletes. People who strive to be Olympic swimmers dedicate their entire lives to swimming and put hours and hours of work into the sport every day.

In Olympic Swimming there are four main competitive strokes that are used: Freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and breaststroke. Each swimmer in the Olympic games must either choose a single stroke to qualify and compete with or they can also choose to qualify and compete in the medley, which is a combination of all four.

The races are determined by who swims the set length the fastest. Each stroke has different length races that the competitors can compete in. usually the swimmers excel in one length or another. For instance a freestyle swimmer can be exceptional at the 200 meter freestyle race, but not as good at a 800 meter freestyle race. It all depends on the individual athlete.

In addition to freestyle competition in Olympic Swimming, there is also team, or relay Olympic swimming events. The way that relay races work is much like a relay race on a track. One swimmer starts the race and then another takes the second leg and another takes the third leg and so on. The medleys are great to watch during Olympic swimming because many times you get to watch athletes who swim against each other work as a team, all swimming to win a medal for their country.

If you are in to water sports and good competition, tune into Olympic swimming during the next summer Olympics. You?ll be blown away by these athlete?s strength and endurance, competing in a sport that they have been practicing for most of their lives.

Polo

A sport in which two contrary teams, formed by four players each, try to get a small wooden ball or plastic ball into the other team?s goal, by hitting it with a wooden stick from on top of a horse. The object of the game is to get as many goals as possible to beat the other team. Each team has to do this in four periods of time called ?Chukkas? made of 7.5 minutes each.

Polo is played outside and inside as well, but the rules vary depending where it?s played. For example, a normal match played outside is made out of six ?Chukkas? and a match played inside is made out of only four ?Chukkas?. The field must be of a maximum of 275 meters and no less than 230 meters in length. As for the width it should not be more than 180 meters if it?s opened and 146 meters if it has wood on the sides. There is also a required space out of the field so that fans never come any danger.

A sport usually played by royalty or very high society people. This is because of the cost of horses and the cost to maintain them, which is the cost of food, medicine and place to live. Some of these horses can reach $30000 dollars in value, before adding all the food and other expenses. The matches are very elegant and are always filled with important people and sometimes even celebrities. That is why the people who have polo for a hobby not only enjoy playing and watching the sport, but also take advantage of establishing or making new business contacts and business decisions at every match. It is worth mentioning that until a few recent year polo was categorized as ?social events?.

Playing this sport requires years and years of training for the jockey and the horse. This is one of the world?s most difficult sports to master, since it is very hard to control an animal that is so large and powerful. In my opinion, I admire this sport, since I find the compatibility that some jockeys and horses reach truly amazing. They have to coordinate so well, so that in a match they appear to be one.

Polo Equipment

A sport played either inside or outdoors. When playing outdoors, the field size must be as follows: 274.3 meters in length by 146.3 to 182.9 meters in width. The goals consist of two posts at a distance of 7.3 meters from each other; they are placed at the end line of the field. When polo is played indoors it is usually played in a large arena or horse stable. The size of this field varies, depending on the space available, although 91.5 in length by 45.1 meters are considered to be the ideal measures.

The ball that is used when playing outdoors, which originally was made out of wood, is now made out of plastic, and its size is about 7.6 and 8.9 centimeters in diameter and it weighs between 99 and 127.5 grams. The ball used to play indoors, is well inflated and covered with leather, and it has a diameter of 4.5 centimeters.

The maze used to hit the ball, has its head made out of wood and a very fine and flexible shaft made out of bamboo or graffiti, it has a length of 199 to 137 centimeters.

The protecting gear is formed by a helmet, knee pads and some bands for the horse?s legs. Falls from a horse can be very dangerous and it is always pure logic to protect your head and at least a few others of your body parts. The horses use bands on their legs, first of all to protect them a little more from any injury that could happen to them and this way the teams can identify other teammates if the team is playing with all the same colored bands.

To have a well trained polo horse, it takes many years and the horse and the rider must be in constant training so that they can reach a state of total control and become one. Most of the time these horses are purebred and are trained by professionals who make this job a little easier for the rider and player later on. The horse is probably the most influential part of a polo team; in other words you could say that, whichever team has the better horses is more likely to beat the other team.

Polo is a sport played on horses; two teams formed by four players each, which try to take a small ball into the other team?s goal with a wooden stick from on top of a horse. The object of the game is obviously to make more goals than the other team.

A polo match can be played either outdoors or indoors, but the rules vary depending on where it is played. When played outdoors the teams are formed by four players, while playing indoors only has three players.

The match is divided into periods of time called ?Chukkas?, each made out of seven minutes and thirty seconds. A normal outdoor match is formed by six ?Chukkas?, while when the matches played indoors are only formed by four ?Chukkas?. When playing an International game, there can be up to eight ?Chukkas?. When the ?Chukkas? end, and if the match is still tied, then there will be extra ?Chukkas? played in sudden death style, this is that, the team who scores first wins.

Players have a rating or handicap, based on their abilities and value to the team. The largest the handicap that a player has, the better that player is considered to be. Matches are usually played based on the handicap of each team member. The best handicap is ten, which is what the best players in the world have; only fifty five players in history, have obtained a handicap of ten. A good player has a handicap of five, there for a good team has a handicap of twenty or more. In the history of polo there have been only two matches between two teams with a handicap of forty, which means that all of the players in both of the teams had a handicap of ten.

The polo field must be between some specific measures, established by the Hurlingham Polo Association. When played outside the field must measure between 274.3 in length by 182 in width. When played indoors, the proper field size should be 91.5 meters in length by 45.1 meters in width.

Polo is a very complex game, learning to play it takes years of practicing and achieving a handicap of ten seems almost impossible.

Soccer: A True World Sport With Team Effort

Football, also known as association football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams, of 11 players each, and is widely considered to be the most popular sport in the world. It is a ball game played on a rectangular grass field or occasionally on an artificial pitch, with a goal at each end. The object of the game is to score by maneuvering the ball into the opposing goal. The predominant feature of the sport is that no players other than the goalkeepers may use their hands or arms to propel the ball in general play. The winner is the team that has scored more goals at the end of the match.

The modern game was officiated in England following the formation of the Football Association, whose 1863 set of rules created the foundations for the way the sport is played today. Football is governed internationally by Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). The most prestigious international football competition is the World Cup, played every four years, which is also the most widely viewed and famous sporting event in the world.

Football is played in accordance with a set of rules, known as the Laws of the Game. The game is played using a single round ball, the football, and two teams of eleven players each compete to get the ball into the other team’s goal, thereby scoring a goal. The team that has scored more goals at the conclusion of the game is the winner; if both teams have scored an equal number of goals, then the game is a draw.

The primary rule is that the players, other than the goalkeepers, may not intentionally touch the ball with their hands or arms during play though they do use their hands during a throw in restart. Although players mainly use their feet to move the ball around, they may use any part of their bodies other than their hands or arms.

In typical game play, players attempt to propel the ball toward their opponents’ goal through individual control of the ball, such as by dribbling, running with the ball close to their feet, passing the ball to a team mate, and by taking shots at the goal, which is guarded by the opposing goalkeeper. Opposing players may try to regain control of the ball by intercepting a pass or through tackling the opponent who controls the ball; however, physical contact between opponents is restricted. Football is generally a free-flowing game, with play stopping only when the ball has left the field of play, or when play is stopped by the referee. After a stoppage, play recommences with a specified restart.
