Golf Club Cover

Golf club cover pattern for circle loom?

Does anyone know of a pattern to make golf club covers on the Knifty Knitter? Thanks for any help!

At the craft store where I bought mine, they had pattern sheets right next to the knitter. It did show golf club covers.

Good Luck!

Hitting the Road With Your Golf Clubs

Plenty of new challenges can affect our game when we play golf on a strange course – the course design, wind, climate and more. The one thing that we can have in our favor is familiarity with our golf clubs. So despite the hassle, our first impulse is to take our golf equipment with us.

Before you start packing your golf equipment for air travel, take a look at these options. Your decision will depend on a number of considerations. These include your budget, how many rounds you plan to play at your destination, and the importance of playing at the top of your game.

Here are three key options: 1) rent shoes and clubs at the destination, 2) ship your equipment to the resort, or 3) take your golf equipment on your flight as checked baggage.

Renting Golf Equipment

For trips when you’ll play only a couple rounds of golf, rental can be a great choice. This option saves you from the hassle of packing your equipment for safe travel and lugging it around airports.

Most courses rent clubs, a few rent shoes, for a reasonable daily fee. But call ahead to make sure they offer rentals. Also make sure they carry your shoe size. The potential drawback of renting is that the golf course may mix and match sets or rent clubs that are dated. Clubs are generally rented on a first come-first serve basis. Make sure the course has enough sets on hand or that you are playing early enough in the morning, that their inventory won’t be an issue.

Some golf equipment manufacturers offer rentals of demo clubs. They will arrange to have them waiting at your destination. The downside is that even though the equipment may be state-of-the-art, it doesn’t come with the familiarity of playing with your own clubs.

Shipping Your Golf Equipment

When your equipment is shipped for you, you can board the plane hassle-free (at least in terms of your golf clubs). When you arrive at the resort, your clubs are waiting for you. Several companies offer shipping services specifically designed for golfers. The major question is whether you are willing to pay for the convenience and peace of mind.

Taking Your Clubs with You

If you opt to take your clubs with you, be aware that golf clubs are not permitted as carry-on baggage on any commercial airline. They must travel in the plane’s baggage hold. You run the risk of broken clubs, equipment sent to the wrong destination, missed flights due to inspection of the golf bag, and charges for excess weight or oversized baggage. Some airlines are now charging $25 for an extra piece of luggage.

Preventive measures, though, can minimize these risks. First of all, get a sturdy golf travel bag. Based on your budget, frequency of golf travel, and attachment to your clubs, you can choose a hard case, soft case or hybrid case. Soft cases will protect the clubs from getting scratched, but if a 50 pound suitcase is dropped on the heads, the shafts can snap pretty easily. A hard case is much better protection from broken shafts.

Hard shell bags are made of high impact material and are practically indestructible. They are also costly. Depending on the brand, you may or may not be able to fit your golf bag inside with the clubs. Before buying, be sure the case size and weight fall within the limits of airline baggage restrictions. Also consider where you’ll be traveling. Their size and form may not fit well in the typical taxis and rental cars of many countries.

If you opt to travel with a soft case – which is not recommended for air travel – be prepared to kiss your clubs goodbye. To minimize potential damage, place the clubs inside your golf bag with your head covers on, and then put the bag inside the soft travel case. Most airlines require you to sign a damage waver. Some won’t even let you use a soft case.

The best solution for air travel is a hybrid golf case. It has a soft exterior and a hard inner core, usually made of high impact plastic. Although hybrid golf travel cases are costly, they offer the advantages of light weight, ample protection, and conformity with airline size and weight guidelines. The hybrid case also serves as your golf bag on the course.

A final word on traveling by air with golf equipment. Airline companies’ baggage rules can change at any time. For example, United Airlines recently announced a change in its free baggage allowance. Most airlines check golf travel cases free of charge as long as they fit within the size, weight and number of bags limits. Typically they allow one golf bag carrying 14 clubs, 12 golf balls and one pair of shoes. To avoid unexpected charges for overweight, oversize or excess baggage, check your airline’s current rules before packing for your trip.

Whether you travel with your clubs, ship them or rent some at the course, a little bit of planning makes for a more enjoyable golf outing.

All golf players no matter what thier skill level, beginner level to old hand, have the urge to improve their golf scores by a few strokes. It is an endless cycle of time-consuming practice hours, driving on the range, and practice sessions spent perfecting the swing or practicing with a few particular golf clubs. For golf lovers seeking useful guidance, there are several tips|tips[/spin] you can follow to improve your golf score. But before you even start make sure you have the best golf equipment to ensure you begin on the right track.

An important tip that can be given to any golfer is developing a good rhythm in terms of swinging and playing. Many golfers who get themselves into a bad swing or other bad habits on the course do so mainly because they are rushing themselves on the course. Taking your time and developing a good pace in swinging the club can reduce the number of slices and shanks off the tee.

Another tip is to change your putter for one that fits with your tempo. Golf players frequently select a putter that is either too heavy or not heavy enough for their putting stroke which can lead to hitting the ball too hard or too light. As a result, the putt may go offline or too short or long. Many golfers have discovered that using a belly putter, with a shaft that is long enough to jab the player in the stomach, is another technique for balancing the weight of the golf club and regulating the putting stroke more evenly.

The third suggestion you can use to shave those strokes off your game is to make sure and use the proper tees. A lot of novice players seem to get better results when they tee up the ball high, the added height helps them hit the ball cleanly, thus reducing them from scuffing the fairways.

The fourth suggestion that can be given to a golfer in search of shaving a stroke or two from their game is to scout the golf course before your golf game. Even if you just look at the golf course map, this way you can identify the hardest holes and try to come up with a strategy that can help you stay out of the hazard and in play, thus reducing your score.

A final tip to consider in reducing your score on the course is to relax a bit and enjoy the course and the playing experience. Many golfers are too driven to win and can play particularly poorly as a result of this hyper-competitive though process. Many golfers will tell you that positive thinking does more to help a golf game than many of the other considerations one can take into account.

If you have a golfer in your life that you need to shop for, consider getting them gifts and accessories for Christmas or Father's Day. A golfer NEVER tires of getting new golf gear to help improve the game and increase their enjoyment. And these golf accessories do not have to break your budget - many are very reasonably priced.

Golfing for a beginner is an often written about topic, yet an area which is grossly overlooked is what kind of equipment should beginners start out with? Choosing your first set of clubs requires a degree of knowledge if you are to make the right choice.

Sadly, you won’t find too many books give a new golfer information and what kind of golf equipment is best for them. The golfer is left at the mercy of the golf pro-shop salesmen to help him, which can prove to be no help at all.

All of the big, brand name sports equipment manufacturers spend so much money advertising and hoping that customers will realize who has the best golf gear but as a new golfer how much do you need to spend?

However, not every golfer is Tiger Woods, so not everyone will need the same equipment that he uses, especially if the golfer is just beginning to learn about golf.

If you are new to golfing, using a Tiger Woods golf club will only make it harder on you because it was made for a professional, not someone who is just learning and only needs basic golf equipment or golf balls for example.

By far and away your most expensive purchase is going to be your set of golf clubs, so some time spent researching what’s best for you will pay dividends for both your game and your pocket. Just because a particular brand is endorsed by a pro does not mean that you will play golf better.

You will find that steel shafted clubs are far more robust than their exotic counterparts so they are an ideal style for the beginner. Sure they weigh a little more but on the plus side they do tend to be more accurate and forgiving than the graphite variety.

They produce far less twist, but don’t have the effective range that graphite shafted clubs do. You will have to use more power and a quicker swing to make the golf ball go the distance you need it to.

Graphite shafted clubs are much lighter than steel clubs and can generate faster swing speeds, which will take your ball farther. Since they take your ball farther, they also have an associated loss of control over the ball on behalf of the flex created while swinging.

Choosing a correct shaft flex or level of stiffness for the club is important too. Golfing pros use a high level of stiffness for they can generate high swing speeds at the club head, and are therefore able to generate more power from a stiff flex.

Now that you are able to see beyond the advertising and endorsements and understand that it is about personal styles, you are in a far better position to make a sensible purchasing decision when you buy your next set of golf clubs or any other golf equipment for that matter.

You always seem to get a buzz from trying something new, and of course along with the excitement also comes the fear and trepidation. What if this is not right for me? what if I’m no good at it?

Golf is like any new sport and if you get off on the right foot so much the better

Of course the first place to start is your drive (or is it). We have all watched the pro’s on the Tv with their massive drives and as a new golfer that is often the first thing we strive for (if un-directed), but what about your putting skills which are just as important?

First of is to get your self some decent golf clubs, your local golf equipment shop should be able to help you here as most of the good one employ golf pro’s who can advice you correctly about a good choice of clubs and putters.

Ladies golf equipment varies as will your own needs so make sure you get this very first step right as well.

Putting may not see like a lot of fun to work on but it is crucial if you want to keep your scores low. Most beginners make the mistake of going out to the driving range and hitting ball after ball with their driver believing that the only way they are going to get good and hopefully break 80 is by hitting a 300 yard drive.

This is a big mistake, what you need to remember is that a missed three foot putt will cost you the same amount of strokes as a 300 yard drive.

So how do you get good at putting? You get good a putting by learning the fundamentals and by practicing. Here is an often overlooked putting tip for all levels of golfers.

Use Putting Aids

Using aids for beginners and experienced alike is a fast way to get your putter working for you. There are several putting aids that you might want to consider adding into your practice time.

For example there are putting machines that you putt the ball into and it returns it back to you. This is very helpful for learning how to keep the putter head square at impact and it also helps you to learn how to get the ball rolling smoothly off the putter's face.

There are also putting aligners that you can implement into your putting practice. This type of equipment will help you to align the ball and help you learn a good putting stroke both back and through the ball.

Another type of putting aid is one that teaches you the correct arc of the putting stroke, many beginning golfers have the misconception that the putter goes straight back and straight through this aid will teach you to actually release your putter head.

Using these putting tips and aids for beginners will help you to quickly improve your score as you will begin to understand all the things that you need to know to be a good consistent putter.
